Well, this is a first for me. Who Barrel ages a märzen? These guys do. Let’s drink it up and see how it is...
Clear, but dark, rich mahogany hue, slim white head.
In the nose: caramel, toffee, maple, vanilla, oak. Leather, tobacco. All the barrel flavors are here.
In the mouth: they’re back on the palate, all the sweetness and richness. Big old malty business wrapped up in the bourbon flavors, a marzen lurking below. I can get a hint of it, holding down the bourbon barrel fort. Tasty stuff. I’m a sucker for the bourbon, so this one just gets me.
