Lake Monster Black is Beautiful Imperial Stout

Lake Monster Black is Beautiful. Imperial Stout.

10 % ABV. 50 IBU.

Lake Monster Brewing, St. Paul, MN.

Solid blackness, thorough opacity, slim brown ring of foam above.

In the nose: Cocoa and espresso, dry and earthy. Malty, but balanced.

In the mouth: Coffee is in charge of this one, cocoa at the edges. Full bodied, but not thick or ridiculous. Nicely managed. They can't all be monsters, nor should they. It's good to have a nice, smooth, if slightly burly and unruffled imperial stout now and then. Earthy and malty are reigning supreme, and then along comes Mr. Alcohol, right on time. It's still a big one, even if it's not bursting it's seams with excessive adjuncts. There's a place for that sort of Imperial Stout, and I'm right there, welcoming it in.

It's a drinkable RIS, that still drives it home with a bit of a punch.

(And only $11.99 a 6-pack!)

World wide collaboration imperial stout, with proceeds going to support Campaign Zero and their efforts to end police violence in America.
