Waldmann Dunkelweizen

Waldmann Dunkelweizen. Dark Wheat Beer.

5.2 % ABV. Waldmann Brewery, St. Paul, MN. Estd 1857.

I've had crowlers bought at the brewery, and those that Ed got for me, and here it is, the first one I bought at a store, this one from the crowler cooler of South Lyndale Liquors, where I currently work. There should be more to come.

Dark brown coloring, nearly black, utterly opaque, slim, light brown head.

In the nose: Cocoa and cream, lightly roasted, some espresso, too. Semi-sweet.

In the mouth: Banana and clove, chocolate and orange. Sweetness and smooth. Slightly spicy, just enough fruity. Dark and delicious. Medium bodied, expertly drinkable. Tasty stuff.

A dark German wheat beer with complex malts and a low bittering characteristic. A creamy and full-bodied beer hints at notes of clove and banana. Malty and refreshing, creating a mosaic of both spice and fruit.
