Fair State Foamers Lime

 Fair State Foamers Lime.

4.6 % ABV Pale Lager Brewed with Flaked Corn and Lime Puree.

Fair State Brewing Cooperative, Mpls/STP, MN

If you know me at all, you could probably guess the next statement I am about to make. This here beer is not one that I purchased due to any interest or compulsion, or any feeling that I just had to give it a try, or that it might please me in some way. No, it fell into my possession by gift or sampler or some other situation where I didn't have to pay for it. And if it's in the fridge, I have to write about it. There may be some instances where I bend that rule, but you'll never hear about it.

I never tried the original Crankin' Foamers because I find the name to be idiotic and the concept repellant.

Ooops, I did try it back in 2019. How soon I forget. And seems like I actually enjoyed it, somewhat, after all. I will now return you to the review already in progress:

No, no corn, please, and thank you. And here I am about to tackle the version with lime. Oh, goody.

Hazy. Because, of course. You're not going to trick hipster's into drinking a cheap lager without leaving the haze. Dull gold, small head.

In the nose: lime, lime, lime, and then lime.

In the mouth: More lime. And nothing else. Do you like lime? This one's the limiest!Like I always say, Lime a lime lime!

I can't really say much about it. There's nothing here beyond the lime. But, it's not bad, actually, and you've got to mow you lawn some time, don't you, and don't you just love limes? This may be the beer for you. Me? Oh, hell, no.

Foamers Lime is our idea of a perfect summer day, in can form. It’s our favorite drinking beer, Crankin’ Foamers, with some really choice lime puree thrown into the mix. Bright, zesty, juicy, maximally crisp and drinkable.

Pryes Main Squeeze Lemon-Lime Blonde Ale

Pryes Main Squeeze Lemon-Lime Blonde Ale.
4.6 % ABV, 22 IBU.
Pryes Brewing Company, Minneapolis, MN.

Clear, bright golden hue, slim white head.

In the nose: Light and slightly malty. Lemon and, later, lime chimes in.

In the mouth: Citrus fruit is charge from the start. Nice and lemony-limey, minor hops, medium malt. There's a genuine blonde ale below all the citrus fruit, and it works. Crisp, breezy, refreshing, easy-drinking, with a consistent lemony-limey flavor. I don't not like it.

Our refreshing, golden, citrus ale is the ideal sidekick for a day in the sun. Packed with real lemon & lime, this “juice” is worth the squeeze

Sisyphus Neverlasting Gobstopper with Key Lime and Guava

Sisyphus Neverlasting Gobstopper with Key Lime and Guava.
3% ABV. 20 IBU.
Sisyphus Brewing, Minneapolis, MN.

Lightly hazed, pale yellow/green color, slim head.

In the nose: Tart, fruity, key lime in charge.

In the mouth: Bracingly sour at the start, big puckering, with key lime screaming out of the gate. Washes down nice and easy, with a little salt at the end, finishing nice and dry. Light bodied, easy drinking. Guava lurks far behind the key lime flavor, but it's there. If this were "only" key lime, it might be too much lime for my taste.

Good sour ale, though, if you like 'em limey and salty.

Inspiration for beers and beer names can come from all sorts of places. In this case, our sour beer "Neverlasting Gobstopper", comes from one of my favorite movies from my childhood, "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory." Everyday I come to work and brew beer I feel like Willy Wonka, but just because of the messed up things we do to people on our tours. Infused with Key Lime and Guava.

Inbound Key Lime Gose

Inbound Key Lime Gose.
5 % ABV. 20 IBU.
Inbound BrewCo, Minneapolis, MN.

Lightly hazed, pale golden hue, slim white head.

In the nose: Tart, salt, lime. Nice.

In the mouth: Again, tart and salt comes first, with lime flavor next. Grips the palate with the sour, then all is light and refreshing. Medium bodied, easy drinking, for the sour heads among us.

This isn't my style, but it's good for what it is.

Our tart Gose Sour Ale brewed with loads of refreshing, tropical Key limes. Enjoy each sip to find a note of graham cracker crust. All the joy of a margarita with none of the tequila-infused regrets.

Falling Knife Key Club Key Lime Kolsch

Falling Knife Key Club Key Lime Kolsch.
5.3 % ABV. Falling Knife Brewing, Minneapolis, MN.

Clear, bright yellow, slim white head.

In the nose: bold, assertive lime notes overcome anything else that would be apparent in an everyday kolsch. (Which, otherwise, would be playing it nice and delicate, anyway.)

In the mouth: Little bit of malt deliciousness at first, little to no hop bitterness, and then that splash of lime. Not as obtrusive on the palate as in the nose. Slight sweetness, just enough of the fruit and the citrus, and tart as you want. Slightly salty. Light bodied, smooth drinking, and absolutely smothered in lime.

I'm a critical type, and I draw the line here and there. I'm also protective of certain styles. Kolsch is one of them. This one is much limier than I like. There really shouldn't be hardly any lime in it.
All in all, I'd just rather kolsches be kolsches.
Aside from that, this is a nice beer. Good limey kolsch and you can drink it.

Oliphant Brewing's The Cherry Lime Humdinger Sour

Oliphant Brewing's The Cherry Lime Humdinger Sour. 5 % ABV.
Fruited sour brewed with cherries and limes.
Oiphant Brewing, Somerset, WI.

Another intriguing label illustration that leads me to thinking, "What?" Someday, I'll get an answer. Until then, it's a puzzle.

Lightly hazed, bright reddish-hued, nearing pink, with ample froth atop.

In the nose: Light in the fruit, light in the sour. Playing it mellow, now.

In the mouth: Intense sour right out of the gate. Cherry flavor comes up, with lime taking over quickly. Big tartness grabs the palate with each new sip. Slightly sweet, largely tart, easy drinker, lightish bodied. Ends clean and dry. Quite nice.

Good fruited sour and you can drink it.

Oliphant 2cloned2getstoned key lime sour ale

Oliphant 2cloned2getstoned key lime sour ale. 5 % ABV.
Oliphant Brewing, Somerset, WI.

Hazed, pale yellow, slim white head.

In the nose: Tart from the start, with citrus in command. Sharp, sour, pungent. Key lime all the way.

In the mouth: Coming on strong with the key lime and salt. Juicy and sour. Medium bodied, long tart finish. I like it. The Oliphant winning streak of sours continues.

Key lime sour with lactose & sea salt.

2clone2getstone

yes, we were not very creative with this title, but we can’t get enough of this movie. its got clones, its got jonn stones, its got action, drama, goofs, thrills, and a kiss at the end. what more could you ask for?

Eastlake Kirby Pucker #23: Mescalita Sour Gose

Eastlake Kirby Pucker #23: Mescalita Sour Gose. With Agave, mezcal, & lime.
6 % ABV. Eastlake Craft Brewery, Minneapolis, MN.

Clear, light golden coloring, slim white head.

In the nose: Funky, fruity, citric, salty. Did you want a sour ale margarita blend? That might be what we're in for here, minus the triple sec.

In the mouth: Spark of sour hits the palate at first, fresh and lively. Then, comes the pucker, salt and lime comes in line, and it all makes sense. Sharp, citrusy, fresh and refreshing. Hey, I like this one!

Sour Ale - lime, agave, sea salt and mezcal

Oliphant Hobocop Gose Style Ale with Orange, Lime and Sea Salt

Oliphant Hobocop Gose Style Ale with Orange, Lime and Sea Salt.
5 % ABV. IBU: ?
Oliphant Brewing, Somerset, Wisconsin.

Clear, bright golden hue, slim white head.

In the nose: salty, slightly sour, citric, wheaten.

In the mouth: Bracingly sour from the start. A touch fruity, but all about the sour, ending on a dry note. Citrus reigns supreme, with salt on the side. Refreshingly delicious. Wow. I can dig this, big time. Go out and get some, now. Enjoy with a side of summer.

Quite an excellent gose. I'm enjoying this all the way down.

From the website: i had a great description for this one, but josh just stepped in wet cement. again. excuse me as i pull him out, he is slowly sinking because he panicked and gave up.

gose-style ale w/ sea salt, orange, and lime. 5% abv.

Grain Belt Southwest Cerveza

Grain Belt Southwest Cerveza.
Mexican Style Lager with Natural Lime Flavor.
4.5 % ABV.
August Schell Brewing, New Ulm, MN.

Clear, bright golden color, slim white head.

In the nose: Clean, crisp, lightly hopped. Some cereal notes, in classic Grain Belt style. Not picking up anything extra yet.

In the mouth: Light. Light. ...Let's see, what else....ooo, there's some lime flavor, as promised. And....not much else. I've already mentioned it's best properties. If that's good enough for you, go for it.

Southwest Cerveza is a crisp, copper lager, both dry and refreshing. This easy-drinking lager puts a twist on the friendly beer with its subtle lime flavor.

Summit Cabin Crusher Kolsch-style Ale with Lime

Summit Cabin Crusher Kolsch-style Ale with Lime. 4.8 % ABV. 30 IBU.
Summit Brewing, St. Paul, MN.

Lightly clouded, bright golden, lasting ivory head.

In the nose: Soft and subtle, lime sticks out.

In the mouth: From first sip, lime doesn't merely "stick out", it's in command. Lean bodied, light and easy-drinking. A splash of summer, long before we get there. Juicy, fruity, utterly quenchable.

I'm not crazy about kolsch being the new style that gets all fruited up, these days. And I don't think I need this much lime. Just me, though. I'm certain plenty of them will be crushed at plenty of cabins.

Low in alcohol, lightly hopped and high in carbonation and drinkability, Summit Cabin Crusher is a traditional Kölsch-style ale spiked with fresh lime peel and puree, plus lemon-lime citrus-forward hops from the U.S., including Lemon Drop and Loral varieties. Balanced by malt flavors and aromas of honey, biscuit and toast, the end result is a crisp, thirst-quenching ale perfect for hot days in Cabin Country. Slightly hazy in appearance, floral notes lead to huge citrus rind aromas of lemon and lime.

Mikkeller San Diego Upstairs Downstairs Golden Lager with Spices

Mikkeller San Diego Upstairs Downstairs Golden Lager w/long Pepper, Kaffir Lime, Coriander and Oak Spirals. 5.2 % Alc./Vol. Mikkeller San Diego, San Diego, CA.

Clear, bright golden hue, vast ivory head.

In the nose: Slightly tart, fruity, lime. Floral/ vegetal. Damned interesting, to be sure.

In the mouth: Clean, smooth, light bodied. Just enough malt, and just enough hops to keep it interesting. More malty than hoppy and then the lime, the spice, and other. Tasty, tasty. Quite delicious, actually. Mmm, I'm digging it. Sweet and malty and tasty and mmmm.

Ska Brewing MoSka Mule Ale with Ginger & Lime

Ska Brewing Moska Mule Ale with Ginger & Lime. 6 % ABV, 7 IBU. Ska Brewing, Durango, CO.

Clear, bright golden, slim white head.

In the nose: Lime starts it off. Quite limey. Then, ginger comes on board. Nice. Now, we have it.

In the mouth: Boom! There it is. Powerful stuff. Tart and spicy. Ginger and lime doing the trick. Light bodied, easy drinker...if you like those flavors. This would be a one and done, for me. One of those gimmick brews that I can't imagine having more than one of, lacking in hops, malt, and other beer-y flavors that I demand from my ales.

To tell the truth, I'm not sure if I can finish this one. I'll try, though, I will most certainly try.

Update: I couldn't do it. Tossed some juice in there, just to give it something.

Brewed to celebrate our 23rd Anniversary! Based on the traditional Moscow Mule cocktail, this refreshing ale is lightly soured yet finishes clean with delicate notes of ginger. Lime peel & citrusy hops balance the light tartness while delivering great hop flavor without bitterness.

Omnipollo Oaxaca Mango margarita slush IPA

Omnipollo Oaxaca Mango margarita slush IPA. 6.5% ABV. Brewed by 12 Percent, Stratford, CT.

I don't know if you've heard this by now, but I tend to steer away from the milkshake IPA. I just hate them. But, this was a sample, so I'm gonna drink it and give my honest opinion. Away we go.

Utterly hazed out, thick and impenetrable, deep golden hue, slim white head.

In the nose: Citrus notes. Some tropical. Minor hops. Touch of sweet and creamy.

In the mouth: I get the IPA here. I'm not picking up on the vanilla and lactose, so much. These beers should be fresher than this, I think. Come to think of it, what is this, anyway? "Mango margarita slush IPA?" "India Pale Ale brewed with lactose sugar, mango, lime, grapefruit, and vanilla added."
Yeah, it's "margarita"-ish, I guess. Limey. Mango-y. Grapefruit-y. Yeah. And milky. And vanilla-y. And a crazy, mixed-up mess.

The one thing this has going for it is that it's more IPA than milkshake, but it's got nothing else going for it. It's alright, but ...not very necessary. I'm pretty sure that I don't like it. I'll finish it, but it won't make me happy.

Eastlake 2017 Arcturan Mega-Saison

Eastlake 2017 Arcturan Mega-Saison. Aged on Peaches in a single red wine barrel for 12 months. 13% ABV. Eastlake Brewery, Minneapolis, MN.

Clear-ish, bright golden hue, slim-to-none head.

In the nose: bold, wine-like, showing alcohol. Fruity and sweet. And here come the peaches. Alcohol is coming on strong now. Ginger's running hot, keeping pace with the booze, grapefruit's got it going on. A little bit of sweet & fruity, trace of Belgian funk, and alcohol keeping it groovy.

This one's a once-in-a-while treat, but I like it nonetheless

Ballast Point Moscow Mule Ale

Ballast Point Moscow Mule Ale. Ale with ginger and lime added. Ballast Point Brewing Company, San Diego, CA.  10.2% ABV.

Clear, amber-ish hue, slim, soon-gone head.

In the nose: Hey, there's ginger in there. And along comes the lime, as advertised. And nothing else.

In the mouth: Big, fierce, large and in charge ginger flavor. Once again, lime comes next, in full force. Light bodied. Lean, clean and powerful. Crisp and refreshing. But, where's the vodka? And, while we're at it, where's the beer?

This is not for me. Gimmick beer. Too much lime, too much ginger, not enough beer. No, thank you. I don't even think it's very good. I hate saying that, but sometimes you have to.

But, I didn't drain-pour. I always finish, whether I want to or not.

Ginger, lime, refreshing; all the good things you’d expect from the cocktail of the same name. We started with a light, sour base beer and then loaded it up with tons of fresh ginger and lime zest. All that is missing is the copper cup.

Modist Har Mar Superstar's Bye Bye 16 Ounce Personal Tallboy Citrus Lager Best Summer Ever Beer

Modist Har Mar Superstar's Bye Bye 16 Ounce Personal Tallboy Citrus Lager Best Summer Ever Beer. 4.9% Alc./Vol. Modist Brewing, Minneapolis, MN.

There are times when my quest to drink them all takes me into places that I'd usually rather not go. This beer, a collaboration with local music legend Har Mar Superstar, was released at Modist's 2nd anniversary party a couple weeks back. It was not released on tap, tallboys only. I saw it at a store recently, and had to give it a try. But is it my kind of beer? We'll see.

Lightly hazy, bright golden, slim ivory head on top.

In the nose: Citrus-y, sure. Light, delicate, airy. Yup.

In the mouth: Big, citrus-y bite up front. Light bodied.Tangerine and lime really come through. Light and citrus-y just about covers it. Very limey. And tangeriney.

Yup. Citrus lager and you can drink it. I'm finishing my notes on the second tallboy from the 4-pack. I'm going to push the other two to the back of the fridge and drink them when it's 95 degrees out. For now, it's just not interesting enough.

And, hey, why not a Fancy Ray McCloney collaboration beer? That sounds like fun. I know he doesn't drink, but it might be more interesting than this one.

New Belgium Tartastic Raspberry Lime Ale

New Belgium Tartastic Raspberry Lime Ale. Ale brewed with raspberry and lime puree' and raspberry essence. All. 4.2% ABV. Brewed and bottled by New Belgium Brewing, Fort Collins, CO, and Asheville, NC.

Lightly hazy, bright crimson/pinkish hue, slim pink head on top.

In the nose: fresh, fruity, tart, and citrusy. Nice.

In the mouth: Fruity, tart. Low to no bitterness. Minimal malt. All fruity and tart. A bit artificial tasting. Maybe it isn't, but it tastes that way. Light bodied. Forgettable. It may please some, but doesn't put a smile on my face, not this time, anyway.

Brewed with raspberry and lime purees for an irresistibly playful sweet-tart sip that’ll put a smile on your face every time.

Dogfish Head SeaQuench Session Sour

Dogfish Head SeaQuench Session Sour. Three parts German-style beer: kolsch, Berliner Weisse, and gose, "blissfully brewed with lime juice, lime peel, black limes, & sea salt."

Here's one I could have written about when I had a few kegs on at Acadia, but I've already established that I'm not too fond of taking notes at work. It was an enormously popular, and we'll bring it back soon. When we drop a beer like this, it's not, as people like to say, "getting rid of it." It's a rotation, folks, we move to something else. Also, the affordability of the pints of this one made some of the more expensive sour ales on tap fall from favor. It hadn't occurred to me that choices were being made not on the nature or the quality of the sour ales available, but on the affordability. Well, duh, why spend $10+ dollars on a 12 ounce pour when you can get a pint of $6 or $7. When all you want is the sour. I guess.

I got a can as a sample from a Sample Man who did not know that we were already on our second keg of the stuff. Fine, I'll use it to review, and so I crack the can and take the notes and away we go....

Alc. by Vol. 4.9% ........

Lightly hazed, bright yellow, slim white head.

In the nose: funky, wild, spicy. Tart. Vegetal, fruity. Lotta lime.

In the mouth: Starts tart and very refreshing. Lime flavors take command, and there's nothing going on butt the tart and the sour.  Bright and citrusy. And the salt, tons of salt. Lightish bodied, low bitterness, lean malt body. And oh, so refreshingly sour.

I like it. This is a great one for summer, of course. But, not for me, I need to switch it up for something hoppier, something beer-ier. But, by all means, you go right ahead. Drink it up.

New Belgium Juicy Watermelon Ale

New Belgium Juicy Watermelon Lime Ale. Brewed and bottled by New Belgium Brewing, Fort Collins, CO and Asheville, NC. 5% Alc. by Vol.

Crystal clear, pale amber color, slim white head.

Light fruit in the nose, slightly sweet, ...huh.

In the mouth: very watermelon-y, and there's the lime. Light bodied, drinkable, but...not really hitting the flavors notes we want. Seriously lacking deliciousness. What do we want in our watermelon ales? Do we want watermelon ales? I know watermelon wheat ales are popular, but beyond that? Non-wheat, with lime added, like this guy?

I know I don't. Gonna do something uncharacteristic and pour it down the drain. No fun in this one.

"Cool off with this refreshingly fruity summer beer brewed with watermelon and lime."

Or don't.
