56 Brewing Squatch Watch West Coast IPA.
7% ABV. 58 IBU. 56 Brewing, Minneapolis, MN.
Once again, a locally brewed West Coast IPA that seems to take it's name from the Pacific Northwest, while the style actually originated in San Diego, CA. It's okay, it's all for fun, but let's check out that beer...
Clear, bright golden color, large, lace-leaving, lasting head of ivory foam. Looking good.
In the nose: Sticky-icky citrus and pine, with a shot of stone fruit on the side. Dankicity abounds.
In the mouth: Juicy and wet at first sip, then the hoppiness rolls in. Bitterness is mild for a supposed West Coast IPA, it also lacks in the crisp and the dry categories. Medium bodied, some delicious malt flavors, hoppy enough to keep me happy, and tasty, sure, but it just another time that a brewery seems to think that clear and hoppy qualifies the West Coast designation. Failure in that regard.
Squatch Watch, Day 204: I thought tonight was just another bust, but then all of a sudden, there he was - lumbering the woods & dragging off yet another bag of hops.
