Invictus Avenger American IPA

Invictus Avenger American IPA. "Beer for the Unconquerable Soul."
6.4 % ABV. 70 IBU.
Proudly brewed and packaged by Invictus Brewing, Blain, MN.

And now we have my first beer ever from the only poem-themed brewery in Minnesota. Invictus Brewing of Blaine takes it's name from the immoral ode by William Ernst Hensley, written in 1875. Captain of My Soul Kolsch, Hensley's Porter, Master of My Fate Barleywine, Out of the Night Stout, and Unafraid IPA are among their beers taking their handles from the poem. I was surprised that there were so few, actually. For a brewery that's been around for a year and a half, and that has 51 beers on Untappd, why no Unconquerable Soul Sour? Wrath and Tears Imperial Stout? Bludgeonings Of Chance Wild Ale? Come on, people....Horror of the Shade Black IPA, Bloody But Unbow'd Red Ale, Menace of the Years Barrel-aged series....so many more places you can go. Clutch of Circumstance Pilsner. Etcetera.

Clear, bright golden hue, solid, lace-leaving cream-toned head.

In the nose: Fresh and fruity. Good dose of hops in this. Piney, citrus-y, all the propers.

In the mouth: Slides down the throat with ease, popping with hop bitterness. Various fruit flavors coming on the palate, citrus and pine, stone fruit, a bit of apple. Bitter, hoppy, then ending dry. Medium-bodied, easy drinking. Absolutely delightful. An IPA one can consume without fuss, nor muss, again and again.

I would definitely have another if you please...

Crystal and Vienna malts gives this IPA a slightly bready sweetness that is balanced with some citrus and slight dank notes from Amarillo and Simcoe hops.
