Modist Oatrich. Double Stout with flaked oats, malted oats, Golden Promise, Caramel malt & roasted Chocolate malts.
7.5 % ABV. Modist Brewing, Minneapolis, MN.
Deep black, fully opaque, short-lived brown head.
In the nose: Roasty, malty, rich. Hints of cocoa and caramel.
In the mouth: Majorly smooth and silky. Oats aplenty in the mouthfeel here. Much malt. Delicately played flavors of chocolate and caramel that dance delightfully on the palate. Full body, wonderful balance. Never too much anything. Beautifully free of gimmicks. Hardly a marshmallow or maple syrup in sight. This is a Modist beer? I can hardly believe it.
Anytime Modist makes a beer that isn't yet another DDH Hazy IPA or some fruity sweet gimmicky thing, I want to try it. I'm glad I got to drink this one.
Double stout brewed with flaked oats, malted oats, golden promise malted barley, T-50 caramel malt, chocolate malt and roasted midnight wheat malt.
