Surly Get Loud! Hazy Wheat IPA

Surly Get Loud! Hazy Wheat IPA . Fruity/ Hazy/ Thunderous.

7.2% ABV, Surly Brewing, Twin cities, Mn.

Once again, I’m finally composing notes on a beer I first acquired months ago, in a sampler pack that is no longer available. This will happen one more time. And then no more, he pledges...

(Another pledge: to hang onto my glasses, coasters, etc., with the original logo. I will not be replacing them with the new one.)

On with the beer: it’s hazy, all right, golden toned, small white head.

In the nose: soft and sweet, touch of tart, bit of fruit...banana & orange?

In the mouth: there’s wheat flavors here, and yeast, but just the barest bitterness. Okay, I get it, this one is a hazy IPA, with wheat malt, and, perhaps a Weizen yeast, but in no way does it resemble an IPA. They seldom do, these days.

It is tasty, though, and smooth and refreshing. Decent enough and drinkable, but nothing to get excited about. This is why I am confused by the name and description.

Sometimes you want a beer to whisper. Sometimes you want it to shout. This hazy wheat IPA does the latter. Get Loud! brings the noise with a wheat ale’s fruit-forward tang and a citrus-heavy jolt of hops for a complex IPA that screams with flavor.
