Brauerei Bischofshof Altvater Weissbierbock

Brauerei Bischofshof Altvater Weissbierbock. Regensburger Braukunst.

7.1 % ABV, Brewed and bottled by Brauerei Bischstof, Regensburg, Germany.

I've made not secret of the fact that I love a good weizenbock. And I sure look forward to finding out if this is one.

Clouded, golden hue, large white head.

In the nose: Wheat and yeast going on in here. Light emanations of banana & clove, but with a whiff of something else, something sweeter. A little caramel? A hint of darker fruits, perhaps. A brace of funk.

In the mouth: Smooth wheat texture, splash of citrus. Higher alcohol gives itself away quickly. Darker malts reveal their flavors. Picking up plum, and a touch of raisin. Practically no bitterness, but all kinds of tasty.

This is a lighter version, a step down from the true kings of the style, like Aventinus. Then again, there are two legitimate versions, the light and the dark styles. I shouldn't be too disappointed when they pour out pale. I'm just always wanting more depth and darkness. Tradition trifft Fortschritt.
